Amid growing concerns that artificial intelligence could lead to widespread job losses, a new report by AI company Anthropic suggests that the impact so far has been limited. The report states that there is no strong evidence showing large-scale job losses due to AI. However, it indicates that hiring of young professionals in technology-intensive roles has slowed down slightly. Despite the vast capabilities of AI, the report notes that its current use remains relatively limited.
According to the study, AI is most widely used in white-collar roles involving coding, information processing, analysis, and routine digital tasks. Jobs such as computer programmers, customer service representatives, data entry operators, market research analysts, and financial or investment analysts face higher risks of automation. In contrast, roles requiring manual skills such as cooks, motorcycle mechanics, lifeguards, bartenders, and dressing room attendants are less likely to be affected by AI. The report also cites data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics showing a decline in hiring of younger workers mainly in tech-heavy sectors since late 2022.
