Apple is reportedly planning a major change to its iPhone launch cycle this year. According to TrendForce supply-chain research, the company may launch only the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable iPhone this month, while the standard iPhone 18 and other variants could arrive in early 2027. Apple has scheduled its ‘Surprise and shine’ event for September 9 at 10:30 PM IST, although it has not confirmed the products to be unveiled.
The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to feature Apple’s A20 Pro chip, reportedly built using TSMC’s 2nm process. The new architecture could improve performance and power efficiency, particularly for on-device AI processing. Reports also point to a new memory packaging system, a possible C2 cellular modem and larger batteries. The Pro models could also receive a mechanical variable-aperture main camera, which may improve low-light photography and depth-of-field control.
Pricing could be another major talking point. TrendForce estimates that memory costs for premium models have risen sharply, pushing overall component costs higher. The firm expects Apple to potentially increase iPhone 18 Pro prices by around 10–20 per cent. In India, the exact pricing remains uncertain, while design changes are expected to be relatively modest. Reports also suggest a smaller Dynamic Island and improved display and battery efficiency, but Apple is yet to officially confirm these details.
