Elon Musk’s Big Prediction: 1 Billion Humanoid Robots Could Arrive Within 10 Years

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made a striking prediction about the future of humanoid robots, saying their global population could reach around 1 billion within the next 10 years. Musk believes a humanoid robot could eventually be at least five times as productive as an average human. If that happens on a large scale, the combined productivity of 1 billion robots could surpass that of the entire human population, potentially transforming manufacturing, services and several other industries.

Musk said the rapid growth of humanoid robots would depend on advances in AI software, AI chips and mechanical capabilities, particularly the ability of robots to handle objects with human-like dexterity. He also expects robots to eventually manufacture other robots, which could accelerate their growth. Tesla is developing its Optimus humanoid robot to perform dangerous, repetitive and undesirable tasks. Meanwhile, China is rapidly expanding its presence in the sector. Industry data cited in the report indicates that global humanoid robot shipments rose sharply in the first half of 2026, with Chinese companies accounting for the overwhelming majority. While the technology could significantly boost productivity, Musk’s prediction is also intensifying concerns about how automation could affect human employment over the coming decade.
