KTR Slams Telangana Government Over Alleged Attack on BRS Women MLAs

KTR Slams Telangana Government Over Alleged Attack on BRS Women MLAs

BRS working president KTR has launched a strong attack on the Telangana government, alleging that police personnel manhandled BRS women MLAs, former ministers and senior legislators while they were attempting to enter the Assembly. He alleged that the women legislators were subjected to high-handed treatment, including their sarees and hair being pulled and their throats being held. KTR held Chief Minister Revanth Reddy responsible for the incident in his capacity as both Chief Minister and Home Minister and demanded an apology.

KTR also questioned the government’s alleged restrictions on the Opposition’s right to protest. He claimed that BRS legislators were stopped from entering the Assembly because the party wanted to raise questions over the alleged failures of the Congress government during its 1,000-day tenure. Referring to protests by Congress leaders in Parliament, KTR questioned whether different rules were being applied to Rahul Gandhi and the BRS. He also demanded that the Speaker clarify the rules governing protests inside the legislature.

KTR said the BRS would continue its protest until the Chief Minister apologised to the women legislators. He demanded strict action against the police personnel allegedly involved in the incident. KTR said the party had approached the High Court over the matter and would also take the issue to the SC and ST Commission, National Human Rights Commission and National Commission for Women. He added that the BRS had boycotted the Business Advisory Committee meeting in protest against the government’s conduct.

KTR further demanded that the Assembly discuss the government’s implementation of its election guarantees, Dalit and tribal declarations and other promises. He challenged the government to hold a detailed discussion on the Dalit Declaration and explain the progress made on its commitments. KTR said the BRS wanted the Assembly session to continue for at least a month so that public issues could be debated extensively. He reiterated that the party would continue to question the government and raise the concerns of the people as the Opposition.
