Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has stirred up a storm after refusing to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to the Indian team following the final in Dubai. Despite repeated requests from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Naqvi continues to keep the trophy in his Dubai office, insisting it will only be handed to the Indian players in person — a condition the BCCI has declined.
In response to the BCCI’s official complaint letter, Naqvi acknowledged receiving it just before the ACC Annual General Meeting on September 30. While he congratulated Team India for their victory, he expressed disappointment that the team did not stay back to receive the trophy, despite his 40-minute wait on stage. He also criticised India’s behavior during the post-match ceremony, saying their actions failed to reflect sportsmanship and respect for cricketing traditions.
Naqvi described the BCCI’s letter as “slanderous and politically motivated,” stating that no prior communication was made regarding the team’s decision to skip the presentation. He reiterated his stand that the Asia Cup trophy would only be handed over during an official ceremony in Dubai. The standoff continues, adding another chapter to the tense cricketing relations between India and Pakistan.
