India Secure a Thrilling Victory Over Germany in Hockey World Cup

The Indian women’s hockey team signed off from the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup on a high, securing fifth place with a convincing 3-1 win over Germany in the fifth-sixth place classification match in Amstelveen, Netherlands, on Thursday. The result marked India’s best World Cup finish since the inaugural 1974 edition, when the team finished fourth.

After a goalless first half, India produced a superb attacking display in the third quarter. Ishika opened the scoring with a field goal in the 43rd minute, before Navneet Kaur converted a penalty corner just a minute later. Navneet then completed her brace with another field goal in the 47th minute to put India 3-0 ahead. Germany’s Lynn Krings scored in the 59th minute, but India held on for a memorable 3-1 victory and a historic fifth-place finish.
