Expectations are soaring for Varanasi, the highly anticipated film directed by S.S. Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu. The film is reportedly nearing the final stages of shooting, while discussions surrounding its digital rights have also generated significant buzz. According to reports, Netflix offered around Rs 150 crore for the all-language digital rights, but the makers are said to have put the OTT discussions on hold, reportedly considering the offer lower than their expectations. Talks with international studios are also said to have not produced the desired outcome so far.
The makers are reportedly confident about Rajamouli’s experience and marketing strategies and are not under immediate pressure to close any digital deal. The team is said to be focusing primarily on post-production while waiting for a more favourable agreement. Given the film’s massive scale and growing buzz, trade circles expect strong demand in both domestic and international markets. The makers are reportedly taking their time with major deals as Varanasi is currently scheduled for release on April 7, 2027.
