

India is gearing up to host a major international sporting spectacle, with the Central government accelerating preparations to pursue its goal of hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. As part of these efforts, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting in Delhi on Thursday. He reviewed the progress of India’s Olympic bid as well as preparations required to host the Games.
The meeting also discussed plans to develop Ahmedabad in Gujarat into an international sports hub. India is additionally aiming to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2029 Police and Fire Games in Ahmedabad.Following the meeting, Amit Shah said on X that the Modi government is committed to establishing India as a global sporting destination by hosting major international sporting events.
Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, senior officials from the Sports Ministry and representatives of the Gujarat government attended the meeting. Officials briefed Shah on the preparations already underway in Ahmedabad to facilitate the hosting of major sporting events.Following the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi recently received the Commonwealth Games flag on behalf of Ahmedabad, which is being positioned as the host city for the next edition.
