Key Meeting on Tummidihatti Barrage in Delhi Today

A crucial meeting on the technical and inter State issues surrounding the proposed Tummidihatti Barrage will be held in New Delhi on Tuesday, September 1. Chaired by the Central Water Commission (CWC) Chairman at Sewa Bhawan at 11 am, the meeting will be attended by senior officials from the Water Resources Departments of Telangana and Maharashtra. The meeting follows sustained efforts by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to move the project forward.

A major issue on the agenda is the proposed height of the barrage. While Maharashtra had earlier agreed to 148 metres, Telangana is seeking approval for a height of 152 metres, arguing that a higher level would facilitate gravity based water diversion and help reduce power consumption. Revanth Reddy has repeatedly sought discussions with Maharashtra and intervention from the Centre to resolve the long-pending issue.
