Trouble for Big-Star Movies?

Post-production has become a crucial factor in deciding the release dates of big-budget films. Major work such as VFX, CGI, re-recording, background score, dubbing, DI and final editing must be completed before a film is ready for release. As a result, even previously announced release dates may change depending on production progress. The impact is especially significant during festival seasons like Dasara, when a major film’s postponement can create opportunities for other movies waiting for a suitable release slot.

Against this backdrop, Nikhil’s Swayambhu and Dhanush’s Om Chapter 1 are reportedly showing interest in the Dasara release window if a major release vacates the slot. Both films are said to be nearing the completion of shooting and moving towards their final stages of production. However, makers are increasingly prioritising the completion of the final copy over announcing release dates early, particularly for VFX-heavy projects. Competition, theatre availability and market conditions are also expected to play a key role in the final release decisions.
