Although the festival will officially begin on January 28, Medaram has been witnessing heavy crowds for the past ten days. Even with a few days left, devotees are reaching early, setting up camps in nearby areas, taking holy baths in the Jampanna Vagu, walking around the goddess platforms, offering gold and fulfilling their vows.
On Sunday alone, nearly one lakh devotees visited the shrine, according to estimates. The main roads of Medaram, the areas around the goddess platforms and the Jampanna Vagu region are filled with devotees. People are coming not only from the Telugu states but also from Chhattisgarh and Odisha in large numbers.
The Telangana government is organizing the festival as ‘Medaram 2.0’ with strong arrangements. Drones, cameras, heavy police security, drinking water facilities and medical camps have been set up for devotees. The Maha Jatara will begin with the arrival of Saralamma on January 28 and conclude on January 31 when Sammakka and Saralamma return to the forests.
