The United States military carried out a missile strike on a cargo ship that allegedly attempted to violate the naval blockade imposed on Iran. The vessel, sailing under the Gambian flag, was reportedly heading toward an Iranian port. According to the US military, more than 20 warnings were issued, but the crew failed to respond.
The incident occurred near the Gulf of Oman on May 29, according to US Central Command. A Hellfire missile was launched targeting the ship’s engine room, forcing the vessel to stop. The extent of casualties, if any, has not been disclosed. The US stated that, as part of the blockade, it has so far stopped 5 commercial vessels and redirected 116 ships.
