New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has humorously issued an executive order temporarily “repealing” bedtimes across the city in celebration of the upcoming NBA Finals. The symbolic order was signed with several children seated around the mayor’s desk, adding a playful touch to the announcement. Sharing the moment on social media, Mamdani said that children of all ages should be able to stay up and watch their team compete on basketball’s biggest stage.
In his post, the mayor joked that while public office often requires difficult decisions, this was not one of them. The executive order carries no legal authority and is purely symbolic, aimed at reflecting the excitement and enthusiasm surrounding the New York Knicks’ appearance in the NBA Finals. Mamdani has frequently expressed his support for the Knicks on social media, and the latest gesture has drawn attention from basketball fans across the city.
