The Central Government has taken significant action concerning the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) following the controversy surrounding the newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 examinations. As part of an administrative reshuffle, CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Board Secretary Himanshu Gupta have been transferred. Rahul Singh was responsible for the overall administration and functioning of the board, while Himanshu Gupta handled legal affairs, audits, and public relations. The move comes amid growing scrutiny over the implementation of the OSM evaluation process and concerns raised by students regarding the system.
The government has also constituted a special committee to investigate the procurement and implementation of OSM services. The panel has been instructed to conduct a comprehensive review of all aspects related to the acquisition and execution of the system and submit a detailed report. In addition, a Parliamentary Committee has issued summons to School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar and CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh to brief members on the rollout of the OSM system and the issues reported by students. The Centre has emphasized transparency, accountability, and adherence to established procedures while examining the matter.
