A nationwide National Lok Adalat will be held on December 13, giving citizens a major opportunity to clear pending traffic challans and minor compoundable cases with 50% to 100% discounts in many states. Minor offences such as not wearing a helmet or seatbelt, signal jumping, overspeeding, wrong parking, missing PUC, driving without a licence, missing number plate, lack of fitness certificate and even wrongly issued challans can be settled on the spot. However, serious offences like drunk driving, hit-and-run, dangerous driving and cases causing injury or death are not included. People must first check their outstanding challans on the Parivahan portal or their state police website, print or save the details, and book a token if required. States participating include Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan and West Bengal.
On December 13, individuals should visit the designated court or traffic court with their RC, driving licence, ID proof and challan documents. Judges and traffic officials will apply the discount or complete waiver for eligible minor cases. After the reduced amount is paid through cash or UPI, a Lok Adalat settlement order will be issued, confirming that the challan is permanently closed and cannot be reopened in the future. This initiative aims to reduce the burden on courts and provide big relief to vehicle owners across the country by clearing lakhs of pending traffic cases in a single day.
