In a remarkable act of courage, a 13-year-old boy in Australia saved his mother and two siblings after they were swept away in rough seas. Battling strong waves for nearly four hours, the boy managed to swim to the shore and alert authorities. Based on the information he provided, rescue teams launched a helicopter operation and safely rescued his mother and siblings, preventing a major tragedy.
The incident occurred near Perth, where Joanne Appleby had gone on a sea outing with her three children using kayaks and pedal boards. Sudden weather changes caused them to drift far from the shore. On his mother’s advice, the eldest son, Austin, set out to seek help. After abandoning a water-filled kayak and even his life jacket, he swam nearly four kilometres to reach safety. Officials later found the mother and two children clinging to pedal boards about 14 kilometres offshore. All four were medically examined and found to be safe. Authorities praised the boy’s extraordinary bravery and presence of mind.
