How Can Vande Bharat Loco Pilots Earn a ₹1 Lakh Salary?

As Vande Bharat trains continue to expand across India, many people are curious about the professionals who operate these premium trains. Indian Railways does not recruit Vande Bharat loco pilots directly. Candidates must first join as Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs) through the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and gain several years of experience before becoming eligible to operate Vande Bharat trains.

To apply for the Assistant Loco Pilot post, candidates must have passed Class 10 along with an ITI certificate in the relevant trade or possess a Diploma/Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering. The age limit is generally 18 to 30 years, and candidates must successfully clear the prescribed medical tests, especially vision standards.

An Assistant Loco Pilot receives a basic pay of ₹19,900, while the monthly in-hand salary with allowances ranges between ₹35,000 and ₹40,000. After gaining experience and qualifying to operate Vande Bharat trains, loco pilots can earn ₹1 lakh or more per month, depending on seniority, running allowance, and working hours. They also receive benefits such as DA, HRA, transport allowance, medical facilities, pension, railway travel concessions, paid leave, and promotion opportunities.
