Mumbai is considering a proposal to introduce floating advertising barges and billboards at around 20 waterfront locations, including Juhu Beach, Lotus Jetty and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link jetty. The Maharashtra Maritime Board aims to generate additional revenue through these advertisements and use the funds to support port facilities and water transport infrastructure. The proposal is intended to explore new revenue opportunities along the city’s coastline.
However, the plan has raised concerns among environmentalists and local residents over compliance with coastal regulations, potential impacts on marine life and the visual appearance of Mumbai’s waterfront. Questions have also been raised about whether the necessary environmental clearances have been obtained. As the proposal moves forward, regulatory compliance and environmental protection are likely to remain key considerations in determining its feasibility.
