Tensions in West Asia could escalate further, with the United States reportedly warning its regional allies to prepare for possible renewed military strikes against Iran after the November 3 midterm elections. According to international media reports citing two diplomats, the proposed military action could last several days. However, President Donald Trump has not made a final decision on launching fresh strikes. Regional countries are concerned that any US attack could trigger Iranian retaliation against energy facilities and other critical infrastructure across the Gulf. The White House and US officials have not publicly commented on the latest reports.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was continuing diplomatic efforts and consulting mediators over proposals submitted last month. The UAE Foreign Ministry also urged both sides to pursue political solutions to prevent a renewed escalation. Separately, reports said US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had removed Army Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia from his position as head of strategy, plans and policy on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Sylvia’s predecessor, Lieutenant General Joseph McGee, had also left the post last October. The reason for Sylvia’s removal has not been publicly explained.
