Former US President Barack Obama has stepped up his campaigning for Democratic candidates in Georgia as the US congressional election campaign gathers momentum. Speaking at a public rally in Atlanta, Obama criticised President Donald Trump’s administration, arguing that its decisions have placed additional pressure on ordinary Americans. He described the elections as an important opportunity for voters to demand accountability and support responsible leadership. Obama campaigned in support of Georgia gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms and Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, urging voters to choose leaders with practical plans to address the cost of everyday essentials, healthcare, rent and electricity bills.
Obama also stressed the need for effective solutions rather than political rhetoric. Bottoms pledged to improve rural healthcare services in Georgia, including access to emergency medical care and maternity services. Ossoff highlighted priorities such as reducing insulin costs for older Americans, expanding Medicaid services and providing job training for young people. Meanwhile, Trump criticised Ossoff at a Republican campaign rally in Perry, Georgia, over his support for legislation offering temporary protection to Haitian immigrants. The contest could influence the balance of power in Congress and shape debates over immigration, border security, healthcare and economic policy. The candidates’ proposals and campaign statements remain central to the political contest in Georgia.
