The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) has approved the purchase of 2,545 megawatts of solar power from three central government organisations. The commission issued orders on Friday, October 30, clearing the procurement of 1,045 MW from NTPC, 500 MW from NHPC and 1,000 MW from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
Under the approved terms, Telangana will purchase power from NTPC and NHPC at Rs. 2.45 per unit. From SECI, 700 MW will be procured at Rs. 2.37 per unit and the remaining 300 MW at Rs. 2.38 per unit. Of the total 2,545 MW capacity, solar plants with a combined capacity of 1,745 MW are already ready, while projects totalling 800 MW are still under construction. The commission also highlighted issues concerning delays in plant construction, tariff revisions due to GST increases, interstate transmission charges and trading margins payable to intermediary agencies.
