SBI Card users should take note of upcoming changes to charges on high-value transportation and fuel transactions. SBI Card is set to levy an additional 1% fee on eligible transactions from December 1. For transportation transactions, the fee applies when an individual transaction exceeds ₹30,000. For example, a transportation payment of ₹35,000 would attract an additional fee of ₹350 if the 1% charge is calculated on the full transaction amount. The category includes freight services, toll payments, bridge charges and bus services.
Additional charges will also apply to fuel spending above the specified threshold. If a cardholder’s total petrol and diesel transactions exceed ₹50,000 in a single billing cycle, a 1% fee will be levied on the total fuel expenditure. For instance, fuel spending of ₹55,000 during one billing cycle would result in an additional charge of ₹550. The changes could have a greater impact on taxi operators, frequent travellers, high fuel spenders and people using personal credit cards for business purposes. Customers with relatively low transportation and fuel expenses are likely to be less affected. Cardholders should check the applicable terms and conditions for their specific SBI Card.
