Telangana food safety officials have suspended the FSSAI licence of G. Pulla Reddy Sweets’ manufacturing unit in Sanathnagar, Hyderabad, following an inspection that reportedly revealed serious hygiene and food safety violations. The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG-SAFE), along with police personnel, inspected 16 sweet manufacturing and retail establishments across the city on October 28, 2026. At the Pulla Reddy Sweets unit, officials reportedly found rotten vegetables, rat droppings in storage areas, expired and mislabelled food products, improper storage practices and unhygienic manufacturing and washing areas. Authorities also cited inadequate personal hygiene among food handlers and the use of an incorrect licence category. The unit was directed to stop operations immediately in the interest of public health.
During the inspection, officials seized 3,133 kilograms of food articles valued at approximately ₹15.03 lakh from the Pulla Reddy Sweets facility. Across the 16 establishments inspected, authorities seized or discarded a total of 3,546.5 kilograms of food articles worth ₹16.86 lakh and collected 22 samples on suspicion of adulteration. The samples have been sent for laboratory testing, and the results are awaited. Officials have indicated that further action, including penalties or other legal proceedings, may follow depending on the findings and compliance with food safety requirements. The suspension of the unit’s licence and the reported inspection findings have brought renewed attention to hygiene standards and food safety practices in Hyderabad’s sweet-manufacturing sector.
