Arab parties have recorded a historic performance in Israel's parliamentary elections, winning a combined 19 seats in the 120-member Knesset. The Joint List secured 11 seats, while the Ra'am party won eight. The result marks a significant increase in the political representation of Arab parties in the Israeli parliament. Arab citizens account for approximately 21 per cent of Israel's population, and their collective electoral performance has drawn considerable attention.
Meanwhile, the bloc led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has secured 53 seats, falling short of the 61 required for a parliamentary majority. With no alliance winning a clear majority, the process of forming the next government is expected to be challenging. The 19 seats held by the Arab parties could become important in determining the political balance and the negotiations over government formation.
