GE Vernova, a US-based company, has announced that it has received an order from Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) to supply nine pumped storage units for the Upper Sileru hydropower project in Andhra Pradesh. Each unit will have a capacity of 150 MW, contributing to a total capacity of 1.35 GW, making it one of the largest pumped storage hydro projects in India.
The project is expected to be completed by 2030. GE Vernova will handle design engineering, manufacturing, testing, supply, transportation, control, and maintenance responsibilities for the units. The company is also supplying four 125 MW units for MEIL’s Kunda hydro project. Officials stated that these pumped storage systems are crucial for grid stability and balancing renewable energy sources.
