‘Jana Nayagan’, starring Vijay in what is being billed as his final film appearance, is directed by H. Vinoth and features Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju and Bobby Deol in key roles. The film, which faced delays reportedly linked to censor-related issues, was released theatrically on July 23 in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. It is now set to make its digital premiere on ZEE5 on August 21, with streaming planned in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.
The political action thriller follows Vetri Kondan, played by Vijay, who takes responsibility for raising Vijji, the daughter of a deceased prison officer. He trains her to become a courageous woman and prepares her for a career in the armed forces. However, gangster John Himmler, played by Bobby Deol, targets Vijji, setting off a dangerous conflict. The film explores the reasons behind Himmler’s pursuit, Vetri’s fight against him and the larger conspiracy involving political leader Roja Rangaswamy, played by Prakash Raj. Trade reports have estimated the film’s worldwide collection at over ₹300 crore, with recent reports putting the figure above ₹320 crore.
