Apple’s much-anticipated camera-equipped AirPods are reportedly facing a launch delay and may not arrive until 2027. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is considering launching the new wearable alongside its 20th-anniversary iPhone and second-generation foldable iPhone. The cameras are not expected to be used for taking regular photos or videos. Instead, they will support a Visual Intelligence feature that could allow Siri to provide information about objects or locations the user is looking at.
The earbuds are reportedly designed to use low-resolution visual data, which could help protect user privacy while also reducing battery consumption. Although earlier reports suggested that Apple might launch the device under the AirPods Ultra branding, recent information indicates that it could become part of the AirPods Pro lineup. Information reportedly found in macOS Tahoe also points in that direction. The delay could give Apple additional time to improve Siri’s capabilities and refine the hardware before bringing the new technology to consumers.
