Auto, cab and school van operators across Telangana have announced a statewide strike from midnight under the leadership of a Joint Action Committee comprising 18 transport associations. The unions have expressed anger over what they describe as the government's failure to implement promises made to transport workers during the elections.
The associations are demanding the withdrawal of the proposal to introduce EV autos through the RTC and seeking annual financial assistance of Rs 12,000 for auto drivers. They are also demanding the establishment of a welfare board for auto and private transport workers and action against Ola, Uber and Rapido bike services.
The unions have further called for the implementation of a Gig Workers Aggregator Policy in Telangana and an 80 percent subsidy on traffic challans. The strike is expected to affect auto, cab and school van services across the state.
