The Mumbai Cricket Association, known for producing several legendary cricketers for the country, has taken a significant decision. It has decided to introduce annual contracts for players representing its domestic team, similar to central contracts offered at the national level. The association will categorize players into three grades based on performance, fitness and other criteria and award contracts accordingly.
Players in Grade A will receive between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 lakh per year, while those in Grade B will earn between ₹8 lakh and ₹12 lakh annually. Grade C players will be awarded ₹8 lakh per year. This system will be implemented from the 2026–27 domestic season. However, it remains unclear whether these contracts will also be extended to the women’s team. With this move, the Mumbai Cricket Association is set to become the first state association to offer such structured contracts to domestic cricketers.
