Jessica Pegula Wins at US Open

Third seed Jessica Pegula made a strong start to her US Open campaign, defeating Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round to advance. Italy’s Jasmine Paolini also progressed after a hard-fought three-set battle against Slovenia’s Veronika Erjavec, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Both players successfully moved into the next round with impressive performances.

However, two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova suffered a major first-round upset. Kamilla Rakhimova defeated Krejcikova 7-6(4), 6-2 to knock her out of the tournament. The opening day of the women’s singles event thus produced mixed results, with Pegula and Paolini advancing while Krejcikova’s early exit emerged as one of the biggest shocks.
