Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar is yet to announce his decision on five more MLAs accused of defection, creating statewide anticipation. While he recently ruled that five other MLAs had not defected, the fate of MLAs Kale Yadaiah, Sanjay, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Kadiam Srihari, and Danam Nagender remains pending. Speculation is rife that a ruling similar to the previous one—clearing them of defection—may soon be issued for at least three of them. Kadiam Srihari's case is delayed as he requested more time for a cross-examination, meaning the Speaker's decision on him will take longer.
The case of Danam Nagender is particularly significant, as he contested the last election on a Congress B-Form, constituting strong prima facie evidence of defection. The Speaker could potentially disqualify him, leading to a five-year electoral ban. This situation has heightened political suspense, as this is seen as the Speaker's first major action on defection cases since the Congress government came to power, drawing historical parallels to a similar period between 2004 and 2009.
