Remarks made by former Samajwadi Party MP Dr ST Hasan about the Ram Temple and the birthplace of Lord Ram have triggered a political controversy in Uttar Pradesh. Reacting to his comments, BJP leader Nazia Elahi Khan criticised Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. She accused him of failing to restrain party leaders who, she alleged, make remarks against Sanatan Dharma, Hindus and their festivals.
Nazia also alleged that such statements indicate Akhilesh Yadav is not concerned about Hindu voters. With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching, she urged Hindu voters to carefully consider their political choices and decide which party they want to support. The exchange has reignited political discussions surrounding the Ram Temple, religious issues and the positions taken by the BJP and Samajwadi Party in the state.
