Indian-origin candidate Saritha Komatireddy, who contested the New York Attorney General election in the US midterm polls with the backing of President Donald Trump, has lost to Democratic Party candidate Letitia James. Responding to the results, Komatireddy conceded defeat and said she had entered the race with the sole intention of serving the public, not for personal gain. She added that although she had lost the election, she would continue working for the people and strive to make New York a safer place.
The 41-year-old Komatireddy has extensive experience in the legal field. Her family migrated to the United States from Telangana several decades ago, and she was born in Brooklyn before her family later moved to Missouri. She worked as a lecturer at Columbia Law School before joining federal prosecution services. During her career, she handled cases involving terrorism, drug trafficking, cybercrime and money laundering. She also served as Chief of Staff at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
