Actor Dia Mirza has faced criticism from several BJP leaders after sharing a video promoting a pollution-free Diwali as part of an environmental awareness campaign. Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane questioned her stand on environmental issues, asking why similar appeals were not made during festivals such as Eid, Muharram and Bakrid. He argued that eco-friendly practices should be encouraged during Ramadan and Bakrid as well.
Rane also accused people like Dia Mirza of being against Sanatan Hindu Dharma. Several other BJP leaders reportedly described the actor as anti-Hindu and anti-government over her campaign message. The controversy intensified after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) removed her video from its pollution-free Diwali campaign following objections from Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam. The episode has sparked a wider political debate over environmental awareness, religious festivals and the responsibility of public figures to address pollution concerns across communities.
