The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved several key proposals aimed at strengthening India's energy infrastructure, domestic manufacturing and judicial system. It cleared a ₹14,500-crore scheme to develop 92 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of grid-scale energy storage capacity across the country. The initiative will support battery energy storage systems, pumped storage projects and emerging storage technologies. It is scheduled to be implemented from 2026-27 to 2030-31.
In another major decision, the Cabinet approved a ₹2,814-crore scheme to promote the processing of 24 critical minerals and strengthen domestic capabilities. The initiative is expected to support sectors such as semiconductors, batteries, electronics and defence by improving mineral processing infrastructure. The Cabinet also approved the continuation and expansion of 850 Fast Track Special Courts to expedite trials in rape and child sexual abuse cases under the POCSO Act. The scheme has a financial outlay of ₹3,788 crore and will continue for five years.
