

Polling commenced on Thursday across all constituencies in Tamil Nadu and in the first phase of elections in West Bengal, marking a significant moment in the electoral process. In West Bengal, voting is being held in 152 constituencies during the first phase, with over 3.6 crore voters expected to exercise their franchise, including around 1.75 crore women. The main contest in the state is between the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Authorities have deployed tight security arrangements to ensure peaceful polling and prevent any untoward incidents.
In Tamil Nadu, polling is underway across all 234 constituencies, with 5.73 crore voters set to decide the fate of 4,023 candidates. The electorate includes approximately 2.93 crore women and 2.83 crore men. The political contest in the state is primarily among the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and other emerging players. Election officials have ensured smooth voting procedures with adequate security and logistical arrangements in place across polling stations.
