Nandamuri Balakrishna and Vijayashanti were once one of the most successful on-screen pairs in Telugu cinema. They acted together in around 17 films, creating a strong fan following during the 1980s and 1990s. Their movies like “Muddula Mavayya”, “Lorry Driver” and “Rowdy Inspector” became huge hits. Their chemistry, powerful performances and energetic dance numbers made them a favorite pair among audiences, bringing consistent success at the box office.
However, after the 1993 film “Nippuravva”, the duo never appeared together again. Many believed it was due to personal differences, but Vijayashanti clarified the real reason in an interview. She explained that by that time, she had risen to the level of a “Lady Superstar”, earning equal recognition and pay as male heroes. Her image had changed and she was getting roles centered around her, making it difficult to act as a regular heroine beside a hero.
She further added that casting two stars of equal stature in one film would be financially challenging for producers. It would mean handling the cost and image of two leading heroes in a single project. Hence, the decision was purely professional and not due to any personal issues. Even today, fans are eagerly waiting to see this iconic pair reunite on screen once again.
