Actress Renu Desai has once again drawn attention with her remarks about her personal life and public identity. She expressed disappointment that even 14 years after her divorce from actor and politician Pawan Kalyan, many people continue to identify her primarily as his former wife rather than recognising her independently. Speaking in an interview, she addressed the criticism and online trolling she has faced over the years. Renu said many people assume that her life began with the film Badri, as though she had no identity or life before it. Referring to the 14 years since her divorce, she drew a comparison with Lord Rama’s 14-year exile and questioned when her own period of being judged through her past relationship would come to an end.
Renu Desai also highlighted her professional achievements after the divorce, which was granted in 2012. She said she produced a Marathi film that went on to become a success and later wrote, produced and directed another film. She also worked on dance shows, wrote poetry and continues to act in films. Questioning why she would receive such opportunities if she had no individual identity, she spoke about the criticism she faces online. Renu said that even when she rescues a dog, she is subjected to abuse, with some people making remarks that suggest she has no right to live without Pawan Kalyan. Her comments have now become a topic of discussion.
