Actress Regina Cassandra has opened up about her experience in the Bollywood film industry, alleging that she was not given due recognition despite playing an important role in Kesari 2. The film, produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, featured Regina as Akshay Kumar's wife. Reacting to Janhvi Kapoor's recent comments about not having enough opportunities to express her opinions in the South Indian film industry, Regina questioned who would speak about the treatment she experienced in a Dharma Productions film. She revealed that she was not given adequate importance during the film's promotional activities. Regina also pointed out that although she appeared throughout a song released as part of the film, the production house did not even tag or acknowledge her on social media.
Regina further expressed her opinion that South Indian actors face regional discrimination in Bollywood. She said that whenever she travels to North India, she is often identified primarily as a South Indian actress, which affects the recognition and importance she receives. Despite being more comfortable with Hindi than Tamil, she feels that her regional identity continues to influence how she is treated. The actress encouraged women in the film industry to speak openly and confidently about the challenges they face. However, she cautioned against turning the issue into a North-versus-South debate, as it could deepen regional divisions within the industry. Regina also said she understands actresses such as Janhvi Kapoor and Radhika Apte sharing their personal experiences.
