Senior Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma impressed with their outstanding fielding in the first ODI against New Zealand. Kohli pulled off a spectacular diving catch in the slips, while Rohit produced a brilliant throw that played a key role in sending a dangerous batter back to the pavilion. Praising the team’s fielding efforts, India’s fielding coach Shubdeep Ghosh said both players rely on their experience and ability to read the ball quickly. He noted that Kohli’s awareness in the covers and point region helps him anticipate the ball’s movement, while Rohit’s accurate throws reflect years of experience. Ghosh also highlighted the importance of quick reactions and muscle memory on New Zealand’s grounds, where fielders often have very little time to respond.
Meanwhile, former cricketer and Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya has suggested that Kohli should consider spending time with young players in Delhi’s dressing room ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Reports suggest that Rohit Sharma is interested in playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy next year, but there is no clarity regarding Kohli’s participation. Dahiya said that even if Kohli does not play in the tournament, his presence in the dressing room would be valuable. He believes the young cricketers could benefit from Kohli’s experience, conversations and guidance.
