The GHMC has decided to construct three dedicated football stadiums in Greater Hyderabad, aiming to boost sports infrastructure in the city. As Hyderabad currently lacks a full-fledged football stadium, authorities have taken up this project on the instructions of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
The proposed stadiums will come up in Kapra, Mallepally, and Red Hills. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 15 crore. Kapra’s stadium will be built on 2.25 acres at a cost of Rs 6 crore, Red Hills on 1.25 acres for Rs 4.90 crore, and Mallepally on 1.5 acres for Rs 4.85 crore.
The plans were approved by the Standing Committee on the 20th of last month, followed by the council’s approval. GHMC intends to build the stadiums with international standards, including galleries, modern layouts, and an attractive design. These venues will be suitable for hosting both state and national-level tournaments.
The tender process is likely to begin this month. GHMC originally planned to convert LB Stadium into a football stadium and reserve Uppal Stadium exclusively for cricket, but that plan did not materialize. After reviewing several locations, these three sites were finalized.
Officials have set a target to complete construction of all three stadiums within three months. The project faced delays due to site availability issues, but the process has accelerated following the Chief Minister’s directives.
GHMC believes these new stadiums will encourage football culture in the city and provide professional facilities for young athletes.
