In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court of India has clarified that married daughters are also eligible for compassionate appointments granted to the families of deceased government employees. The court observed that a woman's rights cannot be denied solely on the basis of her marital status and emphasized the importance of equality in public employment benefits.
The apex court stated that marriage does not alter a woman's eligibility or automatically end her dependence on her parents. Stressing the principles of gender equality, the court held that married daughters must be treated on par with sons when considering compassionate appointments. The verdict is being viewed as a significant step toward strengthening women's rights and ensuring equal opportunities under the law.
