Amazing Restoration at Ramappa Temple

A remarkable restoration has been achieved at the UNESCO recognised Ramappa Temple in Venkatapur mandal of Mulugu district. The temple has resumed its full fledged daily water abhishekam to Lord Rudreshwara after nearly 300 years. The traditional Somasutra, the channel through which water flows out from the sanctum after the ritual, had remained blocked since an earthquake in the 17th century, preventing the completion of the traditional abhishekam.

The restoration was carried out using modern equipment and scientific conservation methods without causing damage to the historic structure. Teams used 3D mapping, endoscopic and GoPro cameras, along with real-time monitoring screens, to carefully track the process. Obstacles were removed layer by layer through soft drilling, eventually restoring the Somasutra. The work was conducted under the supervision of the ASI Hyderabad Circle team and in the presence of Endowments Department officials, INTACH convenor Professor Panduranga Rao, ASI DE Krishna Chaitanya, joint Warangal district conservation officials Mallesham and Krishnavamsi, and Ramappa Temple EO Immedi Bhaskar.
