Indian intelligence agencies have issued a high alert over a possible terror threat targeting Republic Day celebrations. Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed is suspected to be planning attacks across India on January 26. Security has been tightened in key regions including Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab.
According to intelligence inputs, the terror group, allegedly backed by Pakistan’s ISI, has planned attacks under the code name “26-26” to disrupt national celebrations. Delhi Police have released wanted notices with photographs of suspects and detained several individuals for spreading extremist content on social media.
Authorities believe that the threat is not limited to Delhi alone, with major cities such as Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad also on the radar. Following reports of suspicious movements in parts of Telangana, the state has been placed on high alert. Security has been intensified at airports, railway stations, bus terminals, markets, and other crowded places.
