Hyderabad’s LB Stadium once again came alive with sporting spirit after a long gap, witnessing vibrant participation from public representatives. The “Telangana Legislators Sports and Cultural Meet – First Edition” was inaugurated with great enthusiasm, carrying forward the message of “Fit Leaders – Fit State.” The initiative highlighted that a healthy state is built on healthy leaders. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy revived the long-discontinued tradition of conducting sports for Members of the Legislative Council and Assembly during budget sessions, which had been inactive for the past 14 years. Along with the inauguration, he actively participated in various sporting events alongside his cabinet colleagues and public representatives, inspiring a spirit of sportsmanship among all attendees. The event saw the presence of Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers, MLCs, MLAs and several athletes in large numbers.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister highlighted the rich legacy of LB Stadium, noting that it has hosted and trained several world-class athletes over the years. He stated that the stadium would be further developed to meet international standards. He also announced that sports facilities in Gachibowli would be developed with an investment of ₹700 crore to create world-class infrastructure. Plans are underway to prepare Gachibowli as a venue for the 2034 Olympics, with development works scheduled to commence within three months. He added that all major sporting events would be conducted in Gachibowli over the next three years, and that the Begumpet hockey ground would also be developed.
Recalling historical achievements, the Chief Minister noted that India’s football team once secured fourth place globally in the 1950s–60s, during which seven players from Hyderabad represented the national team. He remarked that sports like hockey, football and cricket once brought great recognition to the state and city, but have since declined. The government is now committed to reviving the sporting culture by instilling a sense of sportsmanship among the youth and strengthening the sports ecosystem. He pointed out that sports had diminished after the formation of Telangana and emphasized that the present government has introduced a dedicated sports policy. Through initiatives like the CM Cup, competitions are being conducted from the grassroots to the state level to identify and nurture talent. Acknowledging that India, despite its large population, has not achieved expected global success in sports, he urged adopting the discipline and commitment seen in countries like South Korea. He also mentioned inviting global football icon Messi to Hyderabad to further inspire sports enthusiasm. The government recognizes and honors students excelling in sports and encourages everyone to develop interest and excel in athletics. The event concluded with various sporting competitions, where the Chief Minister himself participated in a football match, adding further energy and excitement to the occasion.
