Visionary filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli is once again pushing the boundaries of Indian cinema by adopting advanced motion capture technology for his ambitious project ‘Varanasi,’ starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. The film is being shot using the newly launched A&M motion capture facility at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad, offering Hollywood-level capabilities such as 360-degree pre-visualization, real-time virtual production, and digital performance capture. This state-of-the-art lab, developed by Mihira Visual Labs in collaboration with Animatrik, marks a significant leap in filmmaking technology in India.
A high-octane 25-minute action sequence for the film has reportedly been shot entirely using this motion capture setup, reducing both production time and costs while delivering stunning visuals. The sequence features Mahesh Babu alongside Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran and is expected to be a major highlight. Known for redefining cinematic standards, Rajamouli continues to innovate with every project. After completing key schedules in Georgia and Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City, the team aims to wrap up shooting by August. With this project, Rajamouli is set to once again emerge as a game-changer in Indian cinema.
