

SunRisers Hyderabad’s interim captain Ishan Kishan created history by becoming the highest-scoring player in a captaincy debut for the franchise in the IPL. He surpassed the previous record held by Manish Pandey, who had scored an unbeaten 69. Kishan achieved this milestone during the IPL 2026 match against RCB, held today at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Coming in at a time when the team was under pressure, he played a brilliant innings to steady the side and lead from the front. He scored 80 runs off 38 balls, including 8 fours and 5 sixes, before being dismissed after Salt took a spectacular catch off the bowling of Abhinandan Singh.
With this innings, Kishan also secured another notable achievement by moving into sixth place among the highest scores in IPL captaincy debuts. He now stands alongside Sanju Samson (119), Mayank Agarwal (99*), Shreyas Iyer (93*), Faf du Plessis (88), and Kieron Pollard (83), with his 80-run knock marking a significant entry into this elite list. His performance ensured that his captaincy debut remained memorable and impactful.
In the match, SunRisers Hyderabad, after losing the toss and batting first, found themselves in early trouble, losing 3 wickets for just 29 runs. However, Ishan Kishan’s outstanding innings helped stabilize the innings. He received some support from Klaasen, who contributed 31 runs. At the end of 18 overs, SRH had reached 175 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, with Aniket Verma (27) and David Payne (1) at the crease.
