Last year, a tragic plane accident occurred in Ahmedabad. On June 12, a flight departing from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after takeoff onto a medical college hostel. The accident claimed nearly 260 lives.
In connection with this incident, Air India has recently received an insurance payout of ₹1,100 crore. Since the aircraft was completely destroyed, the reinsurers and insurance companies have paid Air India a total of $125 million. Additionally, the process to provide $25 million in compensation to the families of the deceased has also begun. However, the process is not yet complete, and there is a possibility that the total compensation may increase further.
To provide financial support to the families of the victims, the Tata Group has set up a dedicated trust. This trust oversees not only the compensation to the families but also covers medical expenses for the injured, reconstruction of the medical college hostel and repairs to other structures damaged by the plane wreckage.
