Amaravati received a major boost after the Union Cabinet approved projects worth ₹2,534 crore for the Andhra Pradesh capital. The Centre has sanctioned ₹1,299 crore for a Central Government Office Complex and ₹1,235 crore for a Residential Complex for Central Government employees. The projects were approved during the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and are expected to be completed within three years.
Once operational, nearly 8,000 Central Government employees will work and reside in a single integrated campus. The buildings will be developed with world-class infrastructure, green building standards, energy-efficient designs, rainwater harvesting systems, conference halls, canteens, and accessible facilities for persons with disabilities. The Andhra Pradesh government had allocated 22.53 acres for these projects in 2018. After renewed efforts by the coalition government, the proposal secured final approval from the Union Cabinet, further strengthening Amaravati's position as the state's legally recognized capital.
