Google is preparing a major upgrade for the Gemini app, focusing on a complete User Experience (UX) redesign. Logan Kilpatrick, Group Product Manager at Google DeepMind, confirmed that the company is heavily investing in a project called “UX 2.0” to improve how users interact with the app.
Many users on social media have said that Gemini’s interface feels cluttered and makes it difficult to find important settings. While some believed the app needed a User Interface (UI) redesign, the company clarified that the upcoming update is primarily focused on improving the overall experience, not just visual elements.
Kilpatrick explained that UX 2.0 will go beyond repositioning icons or modifying the layout. Instead, it will enhance the complete journey of using Gemini, making it smoother, cleaner and more intuitive.
In a separate response, Kilpatrick also confirmed that Google is working on a macOS version of the Gemini app, led by Josh Woodward, Vice President at Google. Once released, this will be Google’s first AI-powered desktop application, allowing users to access Gemini directly from their Mac without a browser. Google may also introduce desktop-specific features in this version.
Although development is active, Google has not provided a release timeline for either the UX 2.0 update or the macOS app.
